Margaret Chin was recently elected as NYC's first Chinese American City Councillor on November 3rd 2009, representing Lower Manhattan, which includes Chinatown, the financial district and City Hall. She has ancestry from the Taishan Area, but was born in Hong Kong. She can speak fluent English, Taishanese, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

Judy Chu (Ph.D) won on July 14, 2009 for the job as the US Representative for California's 32nd congressional district and the first Chinese American women ever elected to the US Congress. A memeber of the Democratic Party, she was previously Vice Chair of the California Board of Equilization, representing 4th District. Judy is an ABC (American Born Chinese) who has ancestry from Xinhui, Guangdong Province, China. Xinhui is city next to Taishan that speaks a Taishanese dialect.
Gary Locke, former Governor of the State of Washington was appointed by President Obama as the 36th Secretary of Commerce and sworn into office on March 26, 2009. Gary Locke is an ABC (American Born Chinese) who has roots from Taishan, Guangdong province, China. He is married to Mona Lee and has three children.
